Guild Wars and Windows 7
I found this on GWW:
Quote:
And since "it runs the same way Vista does," is that a good or bad thing, in terms of playing GW? For the record, I currently have Windows XP. I assume that GW works on W7 based on this finding though, right? |

Just like how GW doesn't officially run on Vista or Vista 64 (since those weren't out when GW was launced) and does.
All it means is that it won't be listed on the GW box basically. |

I am playing it on Windows 7 and it works flawlessly. It just means that if you encounter some error, they can't guarantee they will find a solution.

Works well on 7 Professional.
As a side note, everything else seems to work well also. |

I have been playing Guild Wars on Windows 7 for the last couple of months (Yes, I got it before it came out. The full version, not that demo crap) and it has been working very well.
The reason for the quote: "not officially supported at this time due to the fact that the game requirements have not been updated to list Windows 7" may be due to the fact that Vista requires far more resources than Windows 7. Or they just haven't gotten around to testing the game on it. (The now-limited Guild Wars 1 staff makes things a little slower.) To put it simply... -I had Vista. When idling, it would use a minimum of 2GB RAM, at all times. -I have Windows 7. When idling, it will use less than .5GB RAM. That's zero-point-five. Due to Vista requiring more resources, they may have had to tweak the "game requirements", or something along the lines of that. If you want official answers, I say open a ticket to a GM, or just wait for them to "officially support" Guild Wars on Windows 7. (And, yes. Windows 7, along with Windows XP, are both far superior to Vista. I have not had problems with Vista, it's just a big resource hog. Editing/Recording/Live Broadcasting of my videos just gets annoying slow with Vista.) |

a clean install of vista will generally use the same resources as windows 7. vista does have a more aggressive superfetch, which means it will preload frequently used applications faster than windows 7 does. overall, having spent a lot of time with both, there's no difference in performance between the two.
btw, GW not having official windows 7 certification is not due to arenanet, but due to microsoft. microsoft designates whether an application is fit for their operating systems, not the other way around. |
